Reference and Thematic Maps-01

Page #43

About this Page:

After a two week hiatus, I am so happy to jostle this monkey off my back. This was a really tough page to finish, for multiple reasons. Aside from the characters, everything is illustrated by myself, which took WAY….TOO….LONG. Is struggled early with how to illustrate a reference map vs. a thematic one, and finally when I did, then it came time to execute. I took one out of Minecraft and made mini-isometric “scapes” and threw some variables on them. I hope it translates well. The politician is a character from my Illustrator, Dan Harris and any likenesses to any real humans is coincidence. Though, I think it goes without saying that the political viewpoint being displayed on the page would be the opposite of “lock them up.”

I’m fudging with some new background styles, mostly because I am bored. I’ve been playing with some new watercolor brushes in Autodesk Sketchup that I love, just don’t know how to wield. Here is a short video of what I am talking about.

I asked Dan the illustrator for advice on what to do when you hit a creative wall-he said go do something fun and then come back to your project after a couple of days. The thing is…I was already on day 4 of project vacation lol.

After a lot of essay grading, raking of fall leaves, late wake-ups, decorating for Halloween, and dragging my legs through the mud, I’m excited to finally be done with this one. Sorry for the delay. I must….keep….going.
